What is AADHAAR card?

Aadhaar is the biometric data collection of all resident of India. Since the biometric data (i.e. finger prints and retina scans) are unique to each human being the project is also named as unique identification project.

Why AADHAAR?

The project was launched during the previous UPA Govt. However, due to limited practical utility of the data bank, the enrolment was less than desired. The main reason was non availability of bank accounts with majority of Indian population. However, the present NDA Govt., after successful implementation of ‘Jan Dhan Yojna’ has started using the data bank for all practical purposes.
With Effect from 01 Jul 2015, your LPG Subsidy will be directly credited to your bank account linked to aadhaar card. For all central Govt. employee (serving as well as retired), it is compulsory to have their bank account linked to aadhaar card to receive pension and other retirement benefits. Also, in near future all govt. benefits like ration subsidy, relief during natural calamity etc. is going to be credited to your bank account linked to aadhaar only. Hence, it is not only desirable but mandatory to have an aadhaar card.

How to enroll for Aadhaar card?

The Unique Identification Authority of India has Aadhaar Enrollment Centers across India. To locate one closer to you click here.  Also, you can call 18003001947 to find an aadhaar enrolment center.
Make sure to enter your mobile number while enrolling and remember the mobile number and pin code of your address as it will be required for all future requirements.

How to check status of your aadhaar card?

After successful enrolment at aadhaar center, you will be issued with an ‘enrolment slip’. To check status of your aadhaar card click here. The following screen will be displayed.

Enter your enrolment No., date and time as displayed in the enrolment slip and security code. Click on check status and your will get your aadhaar status. If your aadhaar card has been generated, it will be dispatched to your address by speed post. Also, you can download aadhaar on your mobile or PC. The procedure for which is discussed in following paragraphs.

How to get e-aadhaar?

The best part with aadhaar project is that you can get your aadhaar card online. Unfortunately, some cyber café owners are charging heavy fees to download you aadhaar card. If you have already got your aadhaar number but lost the card, click on aadhaar else click on enrollment ID and feed other details. It is important to have mobile number as One Time Password (OTP) will be sent on that. Once you enter the OTP and click validate & download, e-aadhaar will automatically download on your PC or mobile. The password to open you e-aadhaar is your address pin code.

What if you lost your aadhaar number / enrolment slip?

It may happen that you lost your enrollment slip. You need not worry. You can get you enrollment ID/ aadhaar number easily. Simply click here and The following screen will be displayed.

As mentioned earlier, it is important to have mobile number/ e mail ID as One Time Password (OTP) will be sent on them. Click get OTP (4) to get the password.
After you receives the OTP, (5) enter it click verify OTP (6). You will get your enrolment slip/ aadhaar No. Finally, if you don’t remember you mobile number or you don’t have access to your mobile, you can call 18003001947 and after verifying your details, they will provide you with aadhaar number or enrolment ID as applicable.
